Skopje's Most Distinctive Pedestrian Crossing

What is it?

The Eye Bridge (Oceto Most / Oko Most) is a pedestrian bridge crossing the Vardar River, connecting the city centre to the Macedonia Square area. Its defining feature is two monumental stone eye sculptures — one at each end — that gaze out over the river. Designed by sculptor Valentino Stefanovski and architect Aleksander Bucev, the bridge opened in 2014 as part of the Skopje 2014 project. It is one of the city's most surreal and striking urban art landmarks.

Why go?

The Eyes are genuinely extraordinary — massive carved stone irises that feel both ancient and futuristic. Walk across at dusk when the warm lighting makes the stone glow, and the reflections on the water are magical. A perfect spot for photography and a fascinating example of Skopje's unique architectural ambition.

History & background

Opened in 2014 as part of the Skopje 2014 urban renewal project. The eye motif references an ancient Macedonian protective symbol — the evil eye ward (mati) — repurposed here at monumental scale as urban art.
